Statement on the 2024 Neddy MacDonald Memorial Community Service Award

Dear Friends,

I am delighted to announce on behalf of the Inverness Historical Society, the second annual Neddy MacDonald Memorial Community Service Award. This prestigious award honors the memory of Neddy MacDonald, a revered community leader known for his outstanding service and dedication to the people of Inverness. We shall be selecting two recipients based on the following criteria:

-Has a commitment to Volunteerism

-Exhibits honesty, integrity, and humility

-Is selfless in their service to others

-Often are not adequately acknowledged for their effort

-Reflects the spirit of the community of Inverness

As I said last year when I announced the creation of this award, it is community service that helps make small places such as Inverness so special, so strong, and so crucially important to our wider society. **We are once again asking you to submit nominations at the link at the top of our Facebook page. Nominations are now open and will close on July 7th, 2024.** In the coming weeks, I will review all the nominations before referring the nominees to the selection committee, which I am in the process of assembling. I aim to ensure that the committee is composed of an even number of upstanding Invernessers, and that it is equally made up of men and women. I look forward to overseeing the process and honouring the worthy recipients that the committee selects.

We remain very busy with the proccess of moving to our new location on Central Avenue, and planning community initiatives for the summer. We thank you all so much for supporting the Historical Society in these efforts.

Most Sincerely,

Ben MacKay

Deputy Curator and Organizing Chair of the Selection Committee

Ben MacKay (Deputy Curator)
